Made on the Hill - MOTH

Made on the Hill is part of the Panton Hill 'On the Hill' Festival.  It is a celebration and exhibition of locally made creations according to the theme of the year.

The theme for 2019 is 'Nature's local hidden treasures' which focuses on local endangered flora and fauna such as the phascogale, powerful owl, southern toadlet, spot tailed quoll, spider orchids and more!

PLEASE NOTE - entry date extension: Entries will still be accepted until midnight on Wednesday 23 October.
Writing entries have closed.

Entries can be made in the following categories:
  • Craft - Threads: (primary, secondary & open age groups)
Knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery and felting to ‘Nature's local hidden treasures’  theme
  • Craft - Stitches: (primary, secondary & open age groups)
Patchwork, quilting, soft toys and garments to ‘Nature's local hidden treasures’  theme
  • Craft - Hard: (primary, secondary & open age groups)
Ceramics, mosaics, sculpture, wood, paper, found objects to ‘Nature's local hidden treasures ’ theme.
  • Writing: (primary age 500 words, secondary age 1000 words max, open age up to 5000 words)
Writing to ‘Nature's local hidden treasures ’ theme with word limits:  Primary - 500 words, Secondary - 1000 words, Open – 5000.  Apted award for best entry in primary school age group.
  • Baking: (primary, secondary & open age groups)
Decorated cake, sponge or biscuits to ‘Nature's local hidden treasures ’ theme.
  • Fresh produce: (open age)
Fresh edible, fruit, eggs and vegetables from your backyard or garden.
  • Floral Art: (primary, secondary, & open age groups)
Fresh floral creations from your backyard or garden.
  • Preserves: (open age)
Jams, sauces, fruit, pickles, relish, liqueurs etc.

PLEASE NOTE:  MOTH is an opportunity to display 3 dimensional creations not 2 dimensional works (please do not enter paintings or drawings). Entries must be a creation which captures your ideas on Nature's local hidden treasures.


This activity is held at Panton Hill Hall


Entry to MOTH is FREE and there is no limit to the number of entries that you submit so long as they satisfy the criteria below.  A prize will be awarded for the best entry in each category as deemed by the judges.
  • Writing entries will close on Friday 4th October
  • Craft, baking, fresh produce, floral art and preserves entries will close on Friday 18 October
You can enter online below by completing your details then following the instructions in the email you receive. You'll be directed to click on a link which will take you to the entry form. You may enter several items - just complete a separate form for each item. Please make sure that you leave a valid phone number and email address in case we need to contact you about your entry.

All entries will be completed online - there are no hard copy entry forms this year.
PLEASE NOTE:  Only one ONLINE entry is possible in each of the category / age groups listed below.  If you would like to submit more than one entry in the same section please call 9433 3744 or email.

Delivery of entries:
Please include a print out of your entry form with each entry.
Writing entries must be received by 5pm Friday 4 October at Living & Learning Nillumbik in Panton Hill.
Craft entries must be received by 5pm Friday 25 October at Living & Learning Nillumbik in Panton Hill.
Floral, baking, produce and preserve entries must be received between 8-9am on Sunday 27 October at Panton Hill Hall.

Important information

  • All entries must be your own work.
  • Anyone from Panton Hill and surrounds may enter.
  • The Made on the Hill exhibition is open during the On the Hill Festival, Sunday 27 October from 11am-3pm.
  • Those entering items must be at the hall at 2:30pm for the award announcements and collection of entries unless other arrangements have been made.
  • When viewing the exhibition please take the time to vote for the People's Choice - best in show award.
  • Best in Show will be awarded to the entry with the most 'people's choice' votes.  In the case of a tie multiple awards will be given.
