Sewing Clothes for Beginners

 
Learn the basics of sewing from a pattern and doing alterations to create your own clothes. 
 
 
This 6-week course aims to teach some basic sewing techniques so you can make your own garments and do your own alterations. The first 2 weeks will be spent on learning to use your sewing machine, understanding patterns and then 4 week spent on making a skirt.  You will need to have your own sewing machine to bring along.

You will also learn:
  • The basics of using your own sewing machine
  • Button holes and buttons
  • Underlays and linings
  • Sewing sippers
  • Basic alterations such as hems
  • Splits
Who is this course suitable for?
Anyone who would like to learn how to sew and make their own clothes or do their own alterations.

Level 2 - This will build on the skills learnt in the beginners course. You to make more complicated pieces such as dresses and shirts.

This course is held at our Eltham Neighbourhood House - 739 Main Road.

About the Tutor
Loretta comes to us with 45 years of sewing experience including an alterations business and 10 years of teaching sewing classes in Italy.

This course is open to people aged 14 years and over. 
If you are under 18 years, the Child Parental Consent section of the enrolment form must be completed prior to the first session.
